ADOPTING AN ORPHAN FOAL OR ZEBRA

Prospective adopters must go through an interview process first.  We try our best to match up the right animal with the right family.  We want not only the animal to be happy but the new family to be happy as well.  Our policies not only protect the equines in our care but the prospective adopter as well, so please be understanding and patience with us during the interview process.

To adopt from us you must provide the animal with one-on-one daily attention and love. You must provide the animal with a nutritional diet, plenty of exercise and any necessary veterinary care.

THUNDER HILL RESCUE ( THR ) does not allow any of the animals in our care to be used for breeding.  Anyone adopting foals or Zebras from us is not permitted to allow those animals to reproduce.  If at any time the adopter can no longer keep the animal, the animal must be returned to THR.

THR does not ship any animals. You must be willing to come to our headquarters in OHIO to adopt.

To help recover some of our expenses involved, adoption fees do apply.

There will be several email interviews.  We will ask you to answer the below questions.

Adopter must be knowledgeable regarding the care and upkeep of an equine.  Adopter must know:
    a)  How often hooves should be trimmed?
    b)  How often a foal should be wormed?
    c)  At what age are they old enough to be vaccinated?
    d)  When should teeth be checked for the first time and why?
    e)  What is teeth floating?
    f)  What is colic and how can it be prevented?
    g)  What is rain rot?
    h)  What is mud fever?

If you do not know the answers don't panic.  As long as you are willing to learn and read up on them.  Below are websites to help.
